You're not in Kansas anymore…


It’s time for Friday Feast again here at Vili Flik. We are forced to admit defeat and realise that winter is indeed approaching, but that does not mean that we shall have to leave behind everything that summer had to offer. Although a fresh, cold smoothie is usually a summer drink, it can successfully be used as a great and tasty source of vitamins and antioxidants in the winter months as well.

All you need to make a smoothie is a blender, fruit and/or berries and juice. Basically, you put in whatever fruits or berries you like, add juice, and blend until it’s smooth. You can also add some yoghurt, honey and even oat to make it thick.

My favourites are blueberry, strawberry and banana as well as banana, mango and pineapple. I usually add banana to every smoothie because it adds sweetness and thickness to the smoothie without having an overwhelming taste.

Smoothies can be drunk as a dessert, a substitute for candy or even as a meal on its own. If you add oat to the mixture, it is both delicious, nutricious and filling. A good alternative for those of you who have difficulty eating breakfast.

All edable fruit and berries can be used in a smoothie. You can use fresh fruit or the frozen alternative for an even colder drink. Everyone prefers different smoothies, so just experiment with tastes and thickness until you find your perfect smoothie. Only your imagination can limit you! And the best thing: it’s healthy as well as delicious! Enjoy.
